Default ATV Virgin-Questions on 2009 Honda250 2x4

Hi, I inherited some property with a pond and river. I'd like to buy an ATV to get around the 40 acres easily. Its mostly flat grassy area on one side of the lane leading to the river and its all pasture on the other side of the line w/the pond.

Ideally it would carry at least 2 people and some fishing/hunting gear. Also, do they have hook ups for a small flatbed or other "hauler" to load up with branches, carry insecticide & tree trimming tools or hauling other small items?

My cousin has a 2009 Honda 250 2x4. They bought it new and said they have hardly ridden it. I don't have mileage yet and i don't know how well cared for it is. He is selling it for $2,500.

Is this a reasonable price for this ATV? Is this a good model to buy? I'd appreciate any help you all can provide on.

You should be fine with a 2x4 on stuff like that and once you get good you will be able to hang with the four by's easy. I follow all them guys around on my 400ex and periodically can go further than they can. If you have pics of the 250 post them, but I am sure it's fine if they haven't ridden it much.

250 would not be my first choice for 2up riding. On my 300 you have to be very careful about steering and pulling the front wheels off the ground with that much weight up top. A 250 is a great little single person ride though.

Power wise the 250 will do what you want,I use to load up my 250 Moto4 Yamaha heavy on our ATV camping trips.
ATV come in 3 chassis size, Small (Not kids) Mid size and full size. For example a Honda 250 Recon is small, the Rancher is Mid and the Foreman is full size.
I,m not talking motor size here.
A Suzuki 450 King Quad and sportsman 400 are "full size" yet a 400 Big Bear and 420/350 Rancher are smaller midsize chassis.

For $2500 you should be able to find a good used 2wd 350 class midsize chassis then you would not be as squished together when double riding.

Here is a good pic. The red is a "small chassis" every 250 has, the green is a "mid chassis" every 300-350 and most 400 class have.

You say it's a 250 2 x 4. That could mean a 250EX sport quad or a 250 Recon utility quad. Same motor in each but the Recon has racks and longer fenders for mud protection. Both are bulletproof, very reliable. And $2500 for a 2009 is a great deal. However, it sounds like what you need is a side by side, aka SxS. These look more like a jeep or something. Companies that make them are plenty. John Deere, Polaris, Honda, Kawasaki, Can Am, Arctic Cat. But then they make a SxS that is for sport (like the Polaris RZR) and one that is for work (like the John Deere Gator). It sounds like the one for work is what you need. They have a nice box in the back to haul stuff and some beds have a dump system. I think you should buy the 250 for now and look for a good used SxS. That way you'll have one to ride if it's just you out having fun, and one for work.
