Default 2001 honda Carb problems

my float was sticking in my carb bowl so i took the carb off of the 4wheeler and cleaned the float pin and jets. after putting it back on the 4wheeler and starting i am having a problem with it going dead if i hit the throttle. if i pull out the choke it does not spit or sputter and i can hammer on the throttle., but if i push in the choke and hit the throttle it sputters like it is going dead. it will idle and runs fine until i hit the trottle. if i feather the trottle i can get the rpms up i can hammer down but if i let the rpms come back down same problem. has any one else had this problem and how did you fix it. thanks for any info.

Sounds like an idle air mix problem. When you took the carb apart, did you also
remove the idle air screw and clean out that passage? You also should blow it
out with air after you blast some carb cleaner thru there. Finally, you have to
reinstall the screw at about the same setting as when you took it out, somewhere
between 1.25 and 2.25 turns out.

Your carb also has a cable-operated enrichener valve (not a choke). Remove
and clean that, too.

I see these common cold start systems on ATVs:

A choke is a butterfly valve that chokes off the airstream, which
essentially causes more fuel to be sucked up thru the main jet. You
see these mostly on carbs on smaller-displacement ATVs.

An idle enrichener valve is a cylinder with a needle on the end, which
opens and closes a passage in the carb to enrichen the mixture.
The valve is operated by cable, usually. Smaller Chinese ATVs (GY6) seem
to use an electrically activated enrichener valve.

A primer is a manual pump that you push on to pump fuel up from the
float bowl into the main venturi of the carb.

An electric heater is also used to allow better evaporation of the fuel
when cold. Later units may have these, e.g. Honda Foreman 450.

Ya gotta jump thru a lot of hoops to get a modern ultra-lean EPA-
compliant carb to work on a cold engine. Soon, we will all have fuel
injection. This is what happened to our cars in the late 80's. Absurdly
complicated, computer-controlled carbs until manufacturers went to FI.
