Honda is the last to use rear mechanical drum rear brakes on some of there larger ATVs like the Rancher, Rubicon and Foreman so the fronts will be used a lot.
Most ATVs have stronger hydraulic rear disk brakes.
Rear drums are only found on budget ATVs (my 350 Grizzly being one of them) or kids ATVs now and even those are turning away from it.

thanks TLC-so it's a rear disc brake? those of us who have bit the pavement b/c
we squeezed front brake on 1st 10 speed tend to have an aversion
toward using them at all! I'll work on it.going for a quick ride before the rain arrives
& will familiarize myself w/specs in the manual after.

Your front brake will do 70% of the work if you use it. I highly suggest using it. Don't lock it up and you'll be fine.

Or even more. Properly bled and working front brakes (disc or drum)
will stop any quad very quickly. Use of only the rears is dangerous if
you are going fast.

Note that quads have more swept area in the front brakes per pound
than many hi-performance autos.
