I plan on building a Kawaski for my race bike. I currently race a 400ex but i'm ready for a 2 stroke. Which one of these put out more horsepower? What's the advantage of the tecate-4 being counter balanced? The pro's i see racing on videos....Are they using tecate-4 chasis's with KX250 motors or what? Or would i just be best off with a 250R?

the tecate 3 and 4 used a kx250 motor anyway

it wasn't rubber mounted.......used to vibrate a lot

if ya can get one........they are good
bit of a hand grendad!......

if ya can find a 250r.........probably better....just a nicer bike

I think the pros have only green plastics...
the "new" kx250 engines are said to be very spectacular engines (with a 125 like powerband hit) that makes them exausting (sp?)to ride.
About vibration, I think if you rubber mount it, and get an antivibe steering stem, you should be ok...anyways, are you a man or what?

The Tecate4 was counter balanced. If you take precautions a non counter balanced engine wouldn't be too bad.A new KX250 motor does not have a 125 like hit, they make the broadest power of all the MXers and Completely Rip from bottom to top.Good luck.

I race MX on a 2000 KX250 and I also own an 87 250R which I just play around on. I can tell you without a doubt that the KX motor makes WAAAAY more power than my 250R. I would not say that it has a 125 powerband either - while it does have an a mind boggling midrange and topend, the lowend is as good as it gets for a 250cc 2 stroke. I can beat my buddy on his 99 CR250 in a drag and I outweigh him by 90 pounds.

I think the Tecate 4 had a counterbalanced engine - and I also think they didn't handle as well as a 250R although I have never ridden one.

Some one said something about the new kx250 motors. Have the motors changed in the dirtbike? If so, what years? And what's the difference. Everyone has R's, thats why i was thinking of soemthing different. I hear the KX motor is pretty awesome. I buddy of mine a KX500 motor on his atv and it's pretty BAD. But vibrates really bad. I'm gonna stay with a 250 engine. I'm still not sure if i want to go with a R or kx250, or maybe even a Tri-z motor. I hear those motors are pretty bad. Any more suggestions?

I ride a TRI-Z and its not a bad motor, but its not as good as a new KX.The Z isn't counterbalanced either, so vibratoes aint too bad.If u got the time and money, build a KX250 powered quad, it would be sick.

My friend had a T-4 for about 6 months, and sold it because it scared the **** out of him.He had DG exhaust, bored .30 over, ohlins suspension,, Boyseen racing reeds, and would stay about a 2 quad lenghths behind a Banshee with FmF, and K&N.So I think thats pretty damn good=)

The quads that you are seeing on the video's are custom quads. The chassis is made by Doug Roll, from Roll Designs. The geometry is based on the 250R, and custom made to accomodate the KX250 Engine. Pro Circuit custom made the pipe for it, and all motor work was performed by Chris Grissom Racing. The quad also features Custom Axis Shocks.

If I were you (which i'm not), I would buy a 250R or 400EX, the list of hop up parts is a mile long for both of these machines. AND... you can't question Honda's reliability.
