Dishing wheels out to be wider?

I turned my stock wheels on my 400ex around and dished the front about 4 or so inches wider. I took the valve stems and turned them inside out and put them back in as a dummy plug. Then drilled a whole on the other side and put new valve stems in and made the front ALOT wider. I heard this is bad for your bearings or something. But when you buy aftermarket wheels you buy them dished out like that, so why can't you do your stock ones that way? Any info, please let me know.

I did that to my girlfriends 250EX

but the steel lug nut inserts had to be reversed also, and they're conical shaped so I had to use 2 different sized washers to help spread the contact force on the aluminum holes

did you have to do this on the 400? do they have steel inserts?

We used to do that a long time ago on our 4wheelers. We never had a problem with the bearings!!
