Rubicon Front Differential
#12
Sapo,
I don't own a Rubicon however I did see this occur while I was test riding one at a dealership. I would currently own one if it weren't for this feature, I too read all the reviews and when describing the differntial they all use words like: great, steller, awesome, one of the best in the industry but they never say it works. Now I actually have the Rubicon literature here and it states "It's full-time four wheel drive features a torque-sensing front differential that substantially reduces torque steer" I guess it doesn't say it works either. Anyway I hope you like it, I know I do.

if ur ever goin up a short incline or get stuck in some mud.... pump the front brakes a couple of times and that will engage the tire that is not spinning.. that is all i have to do to my rubi.. so i will talk to ya later

redrubi01,
Does pumping the front brakes give a different effect than just grabbing the front brake and holding it for a few seconds? I tried that while climbing an incline and the tire would "twitch" right when I applied the brake but then just sit there. I could feel it try to pull me up when that tire would try to catch. If it would have pulled, the bone stock '86 Fourtrax 4x4 wouldn't have made an *** out of the Rubicon like it did. With ALL four tires pulling it walked straight up the bank.

Went to dealier today. He said to engage the tire that needs power you must grab the front break, this will engage the other tire. He also said that you must be giving the maching gas. If you let off the gas the other tire will re-engage. You must be giving it constant gas or accelerating. I will try this this weekend and let you know if it works.

Well, I went riding through the serious mud yesterday and it seemed to do better than when I was trying to climb steep embankments. I wonder if it could have had anything to do with the steep grade I was trying to climb? Pumping the front brakes has more effect in the mud I guess.
The only thing that concerns me is what happened in one particularly bad hole. I have stock tires and in Reverse I gunned the engine and it bogged down for a few seconds and finally the tires broke. It was some pretty thick mud but I wasn't having any trouble spinning the tires in Low. I hope I don't have the beginnings of a clutch problem like another member had.
