Honda Rancher ES problem
#1
My 2006 Honda Rancher 350 won't shift and is displaying trouble code 2 (electric shift system). Both up & down shift buttons test ok at the switch, but both up & down circuits fail a continuity test at the ECU connector. (I performed the same tests on my second rancher just to make sure I'm doing it right). I don't see any visible breaks in the wiring.
Could a failed ECU cause this? Anything else I can check before I start disassembling the atv? My winch motor & plate limits access to the front end connector in that circuit, so I'll have to do some major disassembly to test at that connector.
Thanks!

If you are testing for continuity at the ecu plug, you must surely have the ecu disconnected, so how could it be an ecu fault? Try swapping the ecu from the other machine if you still suspect this is the problem, I may be confused with the 450 but I think there were two incompatible ecus on the 350 so both wiring plug colours must be the same.

The ECU has two connectors, a large one with 16 wires and a smaller one with 4 wires. Since I don't really know anything about ECU's, I did the same continuity test on my other (working) Rancher and found that continuity testing the switch circuit only works if the smaller ECU connector remains connected to the ECU during the test.
You might be correct: the part numbers are slightly different on each of my ECUs, so I'm not sure if it's safe to swap them.
