Rincon or Rubicon...I'm struggling
#22
The best machine isn't always the one with the most power or options. I personally like the nimbleness and handling characteristics of the rincon. The suspension is very good and IMO, the best combination of plushness with a responsive and sporty feel. Polaris may be the only brand smoother but it's mushy. Can ams aren't all that smooth. Trust me I have 2 of them, great atvs but the soft seat hides the rougher ride. The rincon is not a mud machine or workhorse but is capable of doing either without sacrificing reliability. The gearing has never been a problem even in the thickest mud unless you plan on adding anything over 27in tires. A simple gear reduction will allow you to take it further. I've towed over 1k lbs more than a few times with mine and it's still going strong after nearly 10 years.
The 680 ohv motor isn't a powerhouse but it's on par with the grizzly. Both are underpowered but the Hondas gear on gear transmission is more efficient at getting power to the rear wheels than the belt style CVTs. Parasitic loses. The grizzly will be a little bit faster but it's nothing to write home about. They both will be left in the dust by the cheaper outlander 650 but the rincon can lose both of them on a twisty and windy trail. It's all about what your riding style is like.
I like having different machines for different types of riding. The rincon is my favorite trail atv and has taken by far the most abuse. I'd definitely buy another when it's time. I like the way can am and Honda make machinery. I'm only brand loyal because I've always been a happy customer.

I currently own a Rancher 420, have owned a 300 4x4, and 2x4, and last Saturday put 40 miles on my Dads Rincon. I'm currently looking for a new ATV and Honda is NOT on the list. I want IRS, a locker, and PS. Not going to get those on any one Honda. I was not impressed with the Rincon at all. We were riding a mix of trails and old logging roads. It seemed to always be in second gear, running at a higher RPM than I thought was acceptable, and I did not think it rode any better that my SRA Rancher, which I would have rather been riding. I was surprised that I could not lose the 4 seater Razor that was following me. I had to slow way down for the water bars that the Razor just floated over.
Im looking at the Grizzly and King quad, will end up going with which ever I can get for the better price.

just saying but my 1992 yamaha timberwolf 250 (225cc) got 21.6hp..... i do 70kmh+ with bear claws 23" i have 5 speed and power wise a 6th is required lol it rev to death on the 5...
most farmer do not need more than a moto 4 with low range 225cc..... i thing we hauled a 1 ton tree with that thing with 2 guy on the front to add weight and even then the moto 4 wanted to backflip
Grizzly is nice kingquad is nice too i rided the kinqquad 750 one time this thing is confortable and powerfull... but the grizzly with the new 2014 engine is probably as powerfull.
Both are better choice than honda... even heard of a farmer using can am outlander without problem 10 + so honda seriously need to do something with their lawnmower based atv...

Except power, all their machines are detuned. Granted the 700 Grizzly and 750 King Quad are less powerful than the rest, but the Rincon is dead last in hp, most of the 500cc machines have more power. Power, like money, isn't everything but its better to have more than you'll ever need as opposed to feeling like you don't have enough. There's a reason why no other manufacturer offers the automotive-style 3 speed automatic, it just doesn't work for an atv. Its never in the right gear, that's why cvt transmissions are great. They always keep the engine in the right powerband no matter how fast you're going or what load is put on the machine. No, they're not perfect but they're the best option outside of shifting for yourself which nobody wants to do in a utility machine unless they want a Honda.

honestly as much as i love Honda i refuse to even think about them till they get their heads out of their asses a release something with both IRS and a diff lock. also not a fan of that 3 speed tranny since apparently it's a sealed unit and has to be fully replaced if something happens which is very expensive
