I bought a Rubicon and a XR 200 a couple of weeks ago. The XR was for my wife. She REALLY wanted the bike vs. the quad. Despite my pleading, she was determined to get the bike. (i know... I should have laid down the law).

Anyway, now she realizes she should have got a quad.

I'm thinking of tradeing in the bike (2001 model, ridden 6 miles) on a new quad. I'm thinking of either another Rubicon or an EX.

We want to trail ride. So, bringing gear with us may be a factor.

I know they are two different machines, but what is the draw to the ex line? Speed?

How will it handle in desert / mountaain trails?? What should I get her?

Thanks,

Chris

dude there are 3 ex's
300ex
400ex
250ex
sounds like to me you need the 250ex since it will probably have some aftermarket racks come out for it
or better yet the kawi lakota

Give her your QUAD, trade the XR for the 400EX. You won't be dissappointed.

I haven't been able to ride mine in the desert yet, but have been told that it's a blast.

Or get another RUBICON!!!

Can't go wrong with another Rubicon if it's not too big for her or too hard to steer. If it is, get her a Kodiak with the 2WD/4WD button. My wife loves her Kodiak and it's fun to switch once in a while to slide around in 2WD.

i had the same problem except my wife was dead set on getting a warrior. I went and got her a warrior, she rode it maybe 6 times and then it sat for about 6 months.....we sold it last week. make sure she is gonna ride what you get for her!

Where do you ride?? I'm right over the hill from you. If you are looking for people to ride with, let us know.

Do you favor a utility or sport bike? My daughter rides a 250EX and loves it. It's a good all around machine, but a little small for large people. My girlfriend rides a 300EX (but doesn't particularly like the manual clutch) for sport riding or a Recon where a utility is needed. All of these have been great bikes.

loma linda? you're probably very close. I live on the outskirts of MV. (San Timeteo Canyon area). We ride back in the hills / canyon. I imagine you folks probably use the same area, just the other side of it?? I hadn't been back there untill the recent purchase, its HUGE!

Is that the area you ride in? How does the ex do back there?? I'm wondering if a ex would be better than the rubicon for the wife (useing it in that area).

Take care,

Chris

Locally, we ride San Timoteo and Reche Canyon. Fortunately, I can ride from my house. My girlfriend lives out in the boonies in Yucaipa (her roads aren't even paved!!). We've built trails and jumps up there and we ride there all the time too. When it's cool we go to the deserts, then switch to the mountains or Pismo Beach when it's hot. We ride a 400EX, 300EX, 250EX, Blaster, LT-80, and Zinger for sport bikes, and a 4X4 Rancher and Recon for utilities.

So what is it your wife doesn't like about the XR?? I got my girlfriend the 300, but I think she prefers my daughters 250 because of the autoclutch. All our bikes do very well and I would recommend any of them. We usually save the utilities for riding in the mountains (places like Deep Creek that are rough and rocky) or if we need to carry cargo. Anyway, if you wife is a beginner she might like the 250 or the Recon (if you need racks), or the 300 if she can shift a manual clutch. If she's not small and has some experience, the 400EX or Rancher (again if you need racks) might be a better choice.

She's welcome to ride our bikes if she would like! I know it's a pretty rare dealer that will let you test ride, and then none of them have any dirt anyway. Let me know if we can help.
