I have a problem with the idle on my 200es bigred threewheeler(1984). It runs great and i just cleaned out the carb to see if it would help it did not. It will idle if i turn it really really high and i hate that. it won't idle where it is suppost to be, it just dies. The weird thing is that when i turn of the gas on the reseve, on, off switch and run it a little then it will idle till it runs out of gas, if i turn the fuel back on before it runs out of gas it will die right away and won't idle anymore. Can you tell me what is wrong.

It sounds like you may have debris in the fuel pickup in the tank. or possibly in the valve itself . I would pull the assembly from the tank and check it before I did anything else. I had a Dirt bike once that would not run and I changed everything on it before I found out the pickup tube in the tank was blocked.(A dead cricket believe it or not) I have since fixed many ill running machines this way. This happens more often than you might think when people buy their gas in containers that are not clean.

Is your idle mixture screw set correctly?

I assume you have a shop manual or a rider manual giving you the initial setting.

If the screw is set properly and you still have problems, the seat where the screw bottoms may be buggered (from overtightening).

Otherwise, if you have clean, dry fuel, flowing freely from the tank, and the carb's clean and properly adjusted, she oughta idle.

Any air leaks in the intake plumbing?

Good luck.
