Default rancher air filter

Hi Very new to this and recently bought a 2006 Rancher 350 es. I saw that the air filter was dirty and tried to purchase one but none in stock. I let the guy talk me into cleaning and oiling it myself (big mistake as I am the anti-mechanic) and after getting it back on of course it wont start? Any help greatly appreciated. I am trying a redo now thinking maybe i overoiled it but one of my biggest problems was getting the rubber edge back over the entire metal housing cylinder to get the clamp back on. Any tricks on that appreciated as well. Thanx

If you over-oiled it you can just take it off and squeeze some oil out. Make sure no screws etc, can fall in, and start it up without the filter. Try without choke for a start. If you can't get it to run, you may have wet the plug. Take the plug out and fit another, or dry the one you have, and try to start it again. Once you have had it running, re-fit the filter and then see if it still goes.
