I'm not understanding....if it starts without the choke...and idles ( when warm ), why are u applying the choke?

We'll I was jut trying to get it ready for the spring season. When I try to start it after it sits overnight it still won't start with the choke on. How would I figure out if the choke Is working properly.

Choke is a simply a butterfly valve that opens and closes by the lever. Buttery valve closed(choke on) shuts down air into the carb for a richer mixture.Honda OEM Parts - The Worlds BEST supplier for Original Honda Replacement Parts Discounted Honda Motorcycle, Dirt Bike, ATV, SxS, and Scooter

- So it started well with the choke before you cleaned the carb?
- Since you cleaned the carb ( if cleaned correctly ) maybe you don't need
full choke? I have rebuilt carbs that required full choke when cold, then
after rebuiding the carb, needed very little choke when cold.
- Next time you try to start it, go ahead and use full choke, but also add a
tiny bit of throttle ( air ), say about 1/16" open on the throttle. See if it
fires up. If it fires up. Next time try it with about 3/4 choke. Manual chokes
seem to be different on each ATV ( even an identical ATV ), some require
more choke, some less choke, and some...
no choke unless its reallycold out.
- You might also pull the spark plug, clean it and reinstall it before trying to
start it.
Hopefully we helped you here.

Maybe it just hasn't been cold enough to need the choke. It has been warm plus I have kept in a heated garage. The reason I was concerned is I cleaned the slow jet and thought that I may have damaged it. It was completely clogged. So I had too turn the idle screw several times to get the idle to slow down. Before I cleaned the carb it would idle real high with the choke on. So I thought it should do the same after I cleaned it. thanks
