300 EX vs. Warrior

We have a 300EX now and I've owned a Warrior in the past. The Warrior has a faster top speed. The Warrior suspension is ok for cruising, but it will buck you off in the whoops and at high speed. The 300 is plusher, but not as good as say a 400EX. By quickness, if you mean handling agility, the 300 is as good as it gets! The Warrior and 300 aren't that different in weight, but the Warrior just handles like a HEAVY bike. Both are pretty good jumpers and fly well, but the 300 suspension will give you a softer landing.
I've said this before in the forum so I know I'll catch some flack, but Yamaha needs to drop the Warrior and design a whole new bike of similar displacement but with a modern engine and better frame. Honda needs to update the 300 engine. This is something they've done before (isn't the 300 just an 250X with an updated power plant??), and if they would lighten it up it would be an even sweeter trail bike than it already is!!

The only major diffence is between the two is the size of the chasis. A larger person will feel less cramped on a Warrior.
The only thing I see bad about the Warrior is the handle bars are a little too tall for an aggressive standing position, which can be easily corrected with shorter handlebars. The 300EX has a more akward reverse engagement.
The front shocks on the Warrior are not quite as good as that of the 300EX, but the Warrior has a slightly better rear shock.
The engines run about the same. My friend has a 300EX and it seems to have a little more low end power, and the Warrior a little more high end power. But it is a very slight difference.
The 300EX also weighs a little less.
If you feel cramped on the 300EX the Warrior would be a better choice, the size differnce is what made me chose the Warrior. You should probably test ride the two and see which one seems to be more your size.

the 300EX is has more bottom end and is only a little slower on top. The 300EX also handles better and is faster on most tracks. But it does have a cramped feel for taller people. For me it wheelies really easily but only because I am 14 years old and weigh 114 lbs. Trust me unless you are tall you will be happy with the 300EX.

i'd say go 300ex
i'm 6' 180 pounds. I feel good on the 300ex, love the feel and the power. You can have a blast on the stock power. And then always have room to move it up.
It cost big bucks to get more power out of a warrior. I mean in drastic mods, big bore kits ect.
YZGUY: why update a motor that works great? Its totally bullet proof. They will run forever with good care. It could use more power, but the only way they are going to get that is make it bigger .and isn't that what a 400ex is for..? Although i would like to see a STOCK 330EX. but then it would be faster than the 400exs.....who knows...

94DGblaster-The "modern" powerplants are blurring the distinction between 2 and 4-stroke engines. Is there anyone out there who wouldn't really rather have a 250R than whatever they are now riding?? Well, that's where these new engines take you. The 300 already has 4 valves (state of the art in 93 when it was introduced), but a dry sump and oil cooler wouldn't hurt either (and water cooled, yeah). Manufacturers seem to have taken the "revolutionary" approach to design, rather than the "evolutionary" approach. Thing is it takes a long time for those dirt bike "revolutions" to filter down to us in the ATV market! If manufacturers have that "isn't it good enough already" attitude, we will never see any improvements.
The 300 frame is spot on for a trail bike (except it could be lighter), so why not a new power plant to match it? We spend a lot of money, SO WE DESERVE IT! And, there are a large number of people (women and teenagers) who are to small for the larger bikes, so just stepping up to a 400 isn't a solution at all for them.
