No Idle at All, What?

No Idle at All, What?
Good Day! I have a 97 Recon 250 2WD and it will start but will not idle at all. As soon as I let go of the throttle it just dies. I can keep it idling by using the choke but it hates that at higher RPMs. LOL So, seems it is not getting enough gas. Any ideas? I did have to use some starter stuff to get it to start but now will as long as I use the choke or the throttle to get it fired and keep running. driving me nuts!

Check the plug and change it "just in case" that is giving problems. The slide carb on the 250 has always given a lumpy idle. If it isn't a fouled plug, you probably have dirt in the idle jet. Remove the float bowl, remove and blow out the jets and the holes they came from. make sure float bowl is clean. Re-assemble and try bike. If it is idling too slowly there is an adjuster screw at the base of the slide, it stops the slide going right down, screw it in slightly and it raises the idle speed. This needs to be high enough for the bike to keep running, but low enough not to make the bike creep forward if in gear, when idling.
