01 400ex popping on decel

Well my initial thought is carburetor (problems seem to always be carburetor lol). My best guess would be the carburetor isn't working properly. I think the carburetor is almost getting stuck and keeps letting gas through causing it to bog.
Does it accelerate fine?

What upgrades are done to the bike or did you make any changes with exhaust or intake. That is usually a lean condition with the pilot jet or fuel mixture screw, since it doesn’t do it when throttle is still lightly applied.

Do you run an open air box and better filter too. You may find your fuel mixture screw and count the number of turns the screw spins in till it slightly seats could be 1 1/2 or 2. ( Don’t screw it in really tight) Whatever it is screw back out to that point and add a quarter turn to it and test ride. If you have to get past 3 turns you will need to go to the next larger pilot jet screw out to 1 1/2 turns as a starting point
