It is far more likely to be CDI, coil, spark plug, regulator or wiring fault than stator. In fact most Hondas will run quite happily with a faulty stator, until the battery goes flat.

Does the stator produce any voltage while trying to crank the motor so the spark is generated at the plug? I am getting no voltage to the CDI, does the CDI require any voltage to get spark?
Thanks

I tend to work on utility quads so don't know the exact spec of the EX but most Hondas made before the fuel injection ECU system, had a strange hybrid CDI which was part AC and part DC, so the CDI could get power from either alternator or battery. Best thing to do is get a workshop manual and follow the ignition system tests in it.

The alternator will produce a voltage when being turned on the starter, but it can be quite small. I am working on an Eiger at the moment, AC type CDI, and the spec is 0.3v minimum from the ignition power coil of the stator.
