Default shifting problem 450ES

I have a 2000 Honda Foreman 450 ES I have replaced the shift motor and angle sensor it shifted fine after that, after being parked for two days I started it and it won't shift. If you shift it into any gear manually for there on it will shift with the buttons until it sets for a couple of days. Any ideas?

Does the starter spin over quickly on that first start? If the battery is on its way out, or there is a current leak, the voltage can be a bit low after the startup. The alternator should put enough out to run the ES system, but you are putting it in gear at low revs when going into 1st or reverse, so the alternator won't be making much power, and it may go into fault mode. Poor earths, or battery connections, can drop the voltage as well.
