Default Top end rebuild help?

Hi, I have a 1984 honda 250r ATC , and it is in need of a top end rebuild . When my dad bought it over 20 years ago, the guy told him it had a 300kit. Not sure if that will change the price tho?? We live in socal so was wondering if anyone knows a place we can bring it, or a place where we can mail it.

Anyone also know a ballpark price?? Thanks

Any info is appreciated!

Answered this for someone else a few days ago, "remove head, cylinder and piston, measure everything and renew what isn't in spec, may only need rings and a gasket set." You need a workshop manual to give you the specifications, but until you strip it, you won't know what does and does not need replacing. Measurements must be done super accurately, I can't get decent results with a digital caliper, so use micrometers, therefore you may have to take the head, piston and cylinder to someone who can do this, a motorcycle repair shop or engine machine shop.

What you are going to be measuring is the piston to cylinder wall clearance. .003- .007 is the limit. Any more and you will need to freshen (new next size piston and cylinder bored to match).
The stock piston size is like 66mm so if you do have a big bore, it will be like 70mm or above.
Best bet is to have a local shop help.
