i have a honda rancher 350 es i have replaced the angle sen shift motor and new battery it will shift when you first start to ride after it warms up it stops shifting you can turn it off then turn the key on but dont start it and it will shift but if you start the motor wont even try to shift can anyone tell me whats wrong with it please

 

At a guess, the regulator overcharging. If your 350 is post 2002 it will show a fault code in Morse, where the gear indicator should be on the digital display, when the fault is on. Either way, check the battery voltage with the engine running. It should not go over 14.5v, much over 15v and the ES computer will shut down.

 

i checked the voltage it is 12 to 13.5 volts so im gussing it is what ever tells when not raced up is going bad do you have any other ideals

 

Does the digital display show a fault code when it refuses to change? If so what? Only other difference I can think of between engine off and engine on, is the shaking of the motor, possibly a wire vibrating and not connecting properly. Check if you can change gear with the emergency lever when the fault is on, it will be stiff as it has to turn the shift motor via a reduction gearbox, but if it won't change, the fault must be mechanical, though I can't think of anything that would differ between running and not, on the gearchange linkage.

 

Also may want to check clutch adjustment and alot of times the reduction gear in front in case needs cleaned and regreased and I have had afew where small bearing in there gets frozen up an stick needs replaced..The early models had a recall on shift linkage cracks or breaks causing shift pattern to be to wide making hard to select gears but only if cant cannot mechanical change an if thats the case will have to remove front case to replace gearshift linkage.just afew more ideals to help.
