Lousy Douglas Wheels!!!!!
#1
Bought new Douglas wheels in March...went riding fo about 50 miles. Got home re-torqued lug nuts...all were tight, but figured it should be done 'cos they are aluminum. Went for a ride this past weekend, about 20 miles, noticed a weird sound from the rear. When I cleaned the quad I found 2 missing lugnuts and the other two were so loose the wheel was about to come off!!! Checked othe lugs...all loose!!! rear wheels now have egg shaped holes (oval).
I used the lugs that came with the wheels...they are flanged, not tapered. BUT the have no serrated edges to grip the wheel.
SO... if you have Douglas wheels>>> Look for different lugnuts. My Honda dealer has after market ones for about 30 cents apiece. They should grip and not loosen up.
I have written Douglas and complained, will see how they reply. Until then take care...I had a potenially dangerous riding situation there.
I will keep forum updated about this.

I have been checking them ... the point is that one should not have to. especially after re-torquing them after 50 miles. and the having them loosen up after 20 more miles.
The original lugnuts do not have any gripping edges to lock them down.

the stock lugnuts are made to use on stock wheels that have tapered inserts on them. To use with a douglas wheel, you need to use a washer over the stud, and turn the lugnut around so the flat side goes down, and the tapered side out..

Actually guys they make a flange lug nut for all such wheels that is the equivalent of having a washer welded to the nut. That way there is force exerted over a greater area, hence a better grip. I have heard from other Douglas Wheel owners and all of them got nuts with serrated edges. Oh well , as Rosanne-Rosanna-Danna said, "It's always something."
