Honda 420 oiling problem
#11
I do so many different Hondas I forget which is which, but think the pump still has the two ports with ring dowels, so the holes in the clutch cover that they mate with are inlet port and outlet. If you blow air through them you will find where they go. One will be to the filter, that is the outlet. The other, therefore, must be the inlet and will go to another gallery which connects to the oil pick up, just above the sump plug.

I think you would be best letting a Honda ATV mechanic take a look at your engine before going to the expence of a replacement. There can't be much wrong, unless an oil gallery is cracked and letting air in or oil out.
The 2012 engine should fit OK, Honda altered the valves between 07 and 12, and the frame wiring loom is different, so a wiring plug or two could be different on the engine. ECU is different but, unless they altered the sensors inside the engine, this shouldn't matter.
