Do you need a big bore kit for a 400ex to beat a banshee?

MIA400EX, sorry to burst your bubble but looking at the power to weight ratio is what I am talking about.
400ex weight 375, HP 26
Banshee weight 385, HP 36
Now spent say $600 on each one, you will be lucky to get a pipe for the 400ex but lets throw in a air filter just to keep it interesting. You got all of 30 hp, wow!
On the banshee $600 you will get pipes, filter, reeds and a spacer, with the hp in the low to mid 40s.
To get a 400ex to this level it would lots of money and would be pretty unreliable. Don't get me wrong, I have only owned Hondas, I just know engines and I know when I'm beat.
As for these crazy claims about beating this banshee and that 250r because they had too much wheel spin or couldn't get traction... come on, that's like saying that a vw bug is faster that a Corvette off the line because the Corvette just spun it's tires.
If you want to know which bike has more go, you race it on pavement, if drag racing is your thing. Now on a track the 400ex will rule but that is not the point here.
I even read somewhere on this forum about a guy claiming to have 56 hp on his 400ex, let me tell you that not even pro with tons of money are able to make with happen, why do you think they are still riding 13 year old 250Rs.

a 400EX can easily be made to beat a Banshee or Raptor or DS650, for that matter. You losers have to get off of your high horses, and admit that the 400EX is the F'ing king of all conditions. Yamaha blows, and yes that is a flame. So stick that up your Toomey's.

For Memorial day I'm probally heading up north and I'll post a clip of a fast 440ex. Stay tuned to see the truth how a 440ex does against a jetted and piped raptor, built 400 srcambler, and a banshee which I have no idea what is done to it if anything. There is gonna be alot of dissapointed people out there.

I have seen a 440ex kick butt over a Raptor but there are soo many modded Banshee's out there, some you run across have way up in the 50-60 hp range! Most 440 kits are in the mid to upper 30 hp range. Banshee's rule for drags but i like the 400 overall as well.

You're not bursting any bubbles robj...
Summarizing what you stated: (all true)
400ex weight 375, HP 26 -- **STOCK**
Banshee weight 385, HP 36 -- **STOCK**
Summarizing what I stated: (all true)
For around $1k, my 416EX, Wiseco Piston, high-performance Camshaft, along with jetting and a pipe can KEEP UP WITH and SOMETIMES pull a DS650 (with a pipe), a (modded) QuadRacer 500, and yes, a Banshee (with pipes).
With these mods, I estimate my 416EX to be in the mid-to-high 30's for HP....and guess what? 300+yd drag runs (MANY of them) prove what I originally said: a 416, 426 or 440EX CAN give these bigger-bore brothers a very good fight...if built correctly.
I never said anything about whooping a Banshee, or spanking a Raptor....just that with as little as $1k invested in a $5400 400EX, I can KEEP UP with and sometimes pull the ancient and badly suspended Banshee, the expensive & high-tech Raptor, and the powerful, pricey tank, DS650.
Add the numbers up Yamaha owners: cost, power to weight and HP--a 416EX (or bigger bore) kicks some pretty serious butt.

Hey fellas,
It all comes down to the conditions you're in. I say this in all honesty- my stock 400 has beaten a piped banshee and flat out imbarrassed a stock DS in a drag race. Now before you all call me an idiot and stop reading my post, read on. We were all three lined up in loose sand, my tires were stock and so were the DS's(and we all know those Kenda Dominators BLOW). The Banshee had 22" All Tracks (I know these were getting good grip but tall tires REALLY rob hp) and it had toomey's, a fresh bore and filter. The DS had a fat guy on it that probably couldn't ride a moped, oh and did I mention that the Banshee was an '89 model and the jetting was messed up? Also, the strip were we where racing was so short I could barely wind up third gear. I believe that most of these people are telling the truth when they beat these quads on there 400, I just think that most of the time they fail to understand the situation. However, the DS 650 that I have mentioned is not the only one that I have beaten. I have beaten another one with a much more skilled rider and a big gun full exhaust. It also had the stock tires and we were racing a short drag in loose sand, but I did beat it. The DS simply must have great traction to get it rolling (oink). I have also raced a Raptor several times, and I must admit, in any drag race condition, he walks all over me. I've just got a full exhaust, 416 piston, and port and polish though. So when we meet again, IT'S ON BROTHA!!
