Good morning all, I just purchased a 98 Honda TRX 300 ex it ran fine for days then all of a sudden no spark I replace the spark plug still no spark I have ordered a new CDI box should be here today because a friend of mine told me that might be it but now I’m wondering the guy bought it from told me that he was having trouble with the reverse on that quad do you guys think that might be the problem if it’s still thinks it’s in reverse and not a neutral and if it thinks that wouldn’t even try to crank over that’s my question because it does try to crank just has no spark thank you very much for your help much appreciated

 

They have a wire from neutral light to CDI which increases spark power to help starting. Without it you can't see a spark when spinning over on the electric starter. However it will still spark on the kick start. Don't just fit a new CDI. You must do the tests at the CDI plug, as a faulty earth to it would blow a new CDI, If it is a faulty CDI, check the regulator is not overcharging once you get it running, as an overcharging regulator (more than 15v across the battery) will also blow your new CDI.
