2013 Honda Recon ES - Engine shut down while driving
#2
Does it do it regularly? Does it do it after you have been using it a certain length of time? Can you re-start right away, or need to let it stand for a while? Usual suspects are tank vent blocked, a sucking sound if you open the cap when the fault is on, indicates this. Over rich mixture, indicated by a sooty plug, check after a run. Or an ignition fault, try another plug first but usually trigger or power coil failing when hot. Carry a spare plug, when fault comes on, whip cap off and try for a spark with spare plug against head while fault is on.

This happened on a ride a few weeks ago. Several day before the ride, I changed the spark plug just as normal maintenance. During the ride the shutdown occurred 3 times, all while traveling approx. 40 mph. The atv would start back up after waiting 2 or 3 minutes with no problem. I am not sure if it showed a fault as my son was driving it. Thanks for your response!

Try another plug, new does not always mean good. 40mph on a Recon must be close to flat out, it is possible he seized it. They quite often run after they cool a bit but you usually get a lot of piston slap and compression will drop.
