Well some of you have heard that I broke the little clamps on my countershaft so the dealer had to weld the front sprocket on to keep it from moving.

Now it's time to get a new front sprocket so I need to take the old one off and weld the new one on...

The question I am asking you guys is, what type of electrode should I use to weld the sprocket on with??, I'm not using a MIG, they aren't srong enough. I know the basics of welding and I know how to weld but I just need to know what number of electrode I need to use ie. 6010, 7018

I need something with strong hold and medium penitration, I dont want to melt the countershaft.

I would think welding the sprocket on would be the last resort. This is going to turn into a nightmare for you down the road, I would sell it. The problems you are having now are only going to get worse.

Ya that counter-shaft going into the tranny would probably cost me millions!!
I am not selling it, it stays until it dies.
I know all the saftey precautions pudding, Thanks anyways

You can't get those clamps with the sprocket because they are right on the countershaft.

7018, (low-hy) would probably be a good choice, TIG would be better you could control the heat a little better, any chance of that???

The sprocket is more of a mild carbon steel, whereas the countershaft may have a little more chrome/nickel in it.

Use some 3/32 7018, go easy...

6013 will have a softer arc, but won't be as strong...

I ordered a new sprocket...its a 12 tooth, I wanted a 13 or 14 tooth but the dealer said they couldn't order them (sounded wierd to me)

So I will probably go slower but have a bit more power.

And this 12 tooth sprocket cost me $12...LOL, I didn't know they were that cheap, that's peanuts!!
