87r and all you other guys im not saying my 400ex will beat it but my bros modded banshee can. The 500 is not made 2 go 125 mph there not geared 2 do that. If you can read in a dirt riders issue they did a right up on it 83mph,83 mph you guys just think because it has 58hp it can do 128 mph they are not geared 2 do that. so you idiots can think What u what because i no im right. You can go find that issue and read it.And i also ride with a CR 500 it is quik as hell but not that fast when my bro stolls out on his Banshee

Back in like 1986 I had a DirtBike magazine that pitted a CR500 against a Honda VFR500. They geared the CR500 alot higher so it would run with the VFR which it did. I think it might have even been faster, and I know for sure it was quicker in the quarter mile. Also I am more than sure that it broke 100mph. It might have even broke 120mph.

I had an 88 CR250R which probably handles better than the CR500 and it was kinda ugly compared to my 92 CR125. I was much faster on MX with my little 125, of course the 250 was fast easily the fastest off road machine I have ridden. I topped it out in 5th several times(high gear for that yr. model), and needless to say it was pretty scary.

So go on and get that CR500. The only reason I can think of wanting it in the east is for bragging rights.

Having a cr500 powered threewheeler on alcohol, I personally can attests that there are very very few quads that can touch it in the dunes at least at the hill, extended swingarm (+14 over 250r) makes duning interesting.so depending on your riding environment choose carefully and stick to 3 or 4 wheels. My trike can be seen at www.angelfire.com/ak2/threewheelio in reader rides page 8 the white trike

I have a friend here in North Carolina with a 250r frame with a CR500 motor on it. He has to pull start it and he has outran a banshee with a 600 ninja motor on it(with nitrous) on the street and nothing,NOTHING can touch it in the dirt at Buckleberry where we drag race them. Banshees that are totally modde out up to 500 havent beaten him yet. I dont know of anything any badder than a cr500 motor, He is currently putting another cr500 motor on a blaster frame and going to extend the swingarm and lower it. That will be wicked even more. If you drag race them go with the cr500 motor I am thinking about doing one know myself.
I can give you the guys phone number if you think you are fast enough to try him!

it might not go over a 100 with stock gearing,,but whatever its top speed it, it will get there quicker than you can light your crack pipe.

Misfit,

Oh, now I get it. Your neighbors cousins friends brothers Banshee can beat a CR500. Whatever!!!

So a CR 500 won't go over 100 stock - I buy that. Have you ever heard of changing the gearing by changing sprocket sizes? That is how you can make a CR500 do well over 100 - I assure you that it is very possible.

I also find it mildly amusing that someone with a barely third grade vocabulary is calling us idiots. Don't they teach you short-bus kids how to spell?

Now get back to class before the teacher notices you are gone - it is almost time for recess.

I don't care what anyone says, only a very very modded shee would even touch a cr500. I've ridden my dad's before and he's nuts. Anyone who needs that much power in a dirt bike needs their head examined. We live on a small farm and just riding around in the fields, I've never hit 5th gear. that bike is damn fast. There is no way that a quad would even come close to it. Anyone who thinks they can has never ridden a 500.
