Well I own both and have plenty of good riding areas for both. If I had to sell one of them it would definately be the 400 EX. Now this is not because I don't like the EX because I love it but for me the Foreman is more awesome to drive. I carry anything and everything on it and it handles awesome. It impresses me more everytime I drive it and it's a 98. I use it for everything. Well I wont go on and on about it but I will say The 450 loves to have weight added to it. It will actually take my buddy and his 400 EX on the rough trails cause I just hold it wide open and it soaks everything up no prob. I gotta say though without weight it is a pretty stiff ride. I'll have pictures up soon. I can't say anything bad about either but I do prefer my Foreman. But if anyone will know best it will be you. Both awesome quads.

The new 450's come with 2/4wd capability, which can put all that engine power to the back axle. HiLifter (see their web page) begins selling an aftermarket lock/unlock front driveshaft for the 450 next month, so you could make a used one do what the new ones do. That should make it even more of a do-everything ride. If you want to go mudding on an EX, I'd suggest adding a winch. In fact, get one that is already bolted to a 450, so you can get pulled out and then ride the 450 to avoid more getting stuck. In case you haven't figured it out, I love my 450S. God wants you to shift, that's why he gave you a left foot. Your left thumb should stay busy HANGING ON.

I would say go with the 400ex I have a 250X and it goes through all the mud i need it too i know that the 400ex will do well in the snow if it is hard snow because its so light it will ride on top of the snow last winter we had about 1 1/2 feet of snow on the ground and we rode on top of it with a recon , blaster , 300ex , 250r , and a 400ex . the foreman is a good rig but its a UTILITY its not going to jump good like a 400ex or wheelie . i would definatly get the 400ex i havent been on a trail yet that my 250X wont go that a 450 would .
