What brand oil for my 250R???
#1
I need to buy some 2 stroke oil for my 250R, and i need to know which brand and type is best. I've heard bel-ray and maxima is good, but what type from them? ALso, my dealer told me to go with original honda oil, and another told me klotz oil. SO which one would be best. My engine is stock as far as i know, with only a pipe, and some portwork by the previous owner. Where would be the best place to buy the oil?

Amsoil! My bike is a 1987R .020 over. Has not been apart for 10 years. I still have 163 pounds of compresion. When I built it back then I had 165 after breakin. You can not ask for much more out of a oil. I ran Honda oil till the first tear down. Then Belray till the next one. Then Amsoil from then on.

There are almost as many brand/mix ratios as there are people that ride 2 strokes.
I run Golden Spectro @ 50:1. I know lots of people that just love Amsoil. Some of the guys with lots of bucks in their motors use Klotz.
Any shop will have some oil to sell. When I bought my first R, I ran Maxima at 32:1. They're all good oils.

"How do i know what ratio of oil to mix?"
Each manufacture will have different ratios for their oil. Just be sure to look at the label and mix accordingly.
"If they're all good, which one would be the least expensive to buy?"
If you want to buy local, check different dealers in your area for the type of oil you would like to use. Most will give you a discount if you buy it in case lots. You can also buy by the gallon which is cheaper, but then you need someway to measure it accurately. You can also buy by the case from dealers in the mags, or online stores. Just need to check around.
FYI: I use Bel-Ray MC-1 at 50:1 Is it any better than the rest? Prolly not, but I have used Bel-Ray since back in the early 70's, I have had good luck with it and I just don't want to change.
