If I remember correctly, there were some electrical problems in the first year of 400EX's that was fixed the next year. Other than that, I think they have pretty much stayed the same, other than the new yellow 400EX.

When we bought my '01 400ex last summer, we were told(by the dealer)that Honda made the swing arm stronger. Anyone else heard this??

 

Only on the red one. Seeing how this one went faster they had to beef her up....

 

yup, the red one has a bit higher compression (10:1 compared to 9.2:1) and a bit hotter of a cam. the yellow one is 1" wider, 1" longer, and has a different handle bar sweep. the pre-2001 modles had the yellow engine and the red chassis. hope this clears things up.

Ok people its time to get serious. You guys are kidding right? I mean, why would they make one faster when they are the same thing just a different color. Ok guys tell me the Truth.

 

really, they had to come up with a way to keep selling the red ones, so they made it faster. they wanted to keep the yellow competitive in shootouts, so they made it handle better. i ride trails so i wanted handling more than extra power.
