I'm planning on changing from the stock 20" rear Ohtsu tires to 18" Turf Tamers. Which size should I get? The 11" wide, or 9.5" wide Turf Tamers? Also, to gain abck the top-end that I lose with the 18" tires, how should I re-gear? How many teeth should I drop on the back, or how many should I go up on the front? Which would be better? Thanks a lot.

Drop the rear to a 36 or 37 i have a 36 on my 400. Run 9.5 wide if u ride on hard pack or 11 if you ride in softer areas

i would not even change the gear the effects of the smaller tires will be better exceleration and top-end loss but the loos in spees is very minimal 2-3 miles per hour its not a big deal

I also say go with the 18-11, thats what i got on my R, but i was told for the muddy races that the 9.5's get better traction since they dig into the mud, instead of floating on top like the 11's would. I really haven't had any chance to test try both, but i still say that the 11's are the way to go.

white bro's slip-on, razrs on the rear, AC nerfs, kill switch.

'98 Yamy Blaster(last years championship winning quad)
fmf pipe/silencer, k&n filter, AC nerfs/bumper/grab bar, bandit rears on douglas .190's, fast trekker fronts on douglas .190's, renthal bars, injector block-off.

'86 250r (Finally finshed!!!!!!)
LRD national motor/pipe/silencer, AC pro pegs/bumper/grab bar, maier dark blue plastic, Nac's Racing graphic kit/seat cover/bar clamp/bar pad/brake block off/mud caps(beadlocks), marshall radial fronts on douglas .190's, grooved turfs on douglas/champion beadlocks, Tag bars, leagers a-arms/swing arm, LSR axle, anti fade lock nut, PeP rear shock, Ohlins piggyback front shocks(PeP fronts on order), GS Racing wireharness, 114 race fuel, Synergyn oils

Do you experience excitment while slidding totally sideways through a hairpin turn with a front tire scraping the side of yur nerf bar while the motor revs out at 9,000rpm???

wcy2k400ex get the 9.5 and keep stock gearing.Because if u cange your gearing to make it equal stock top end your just lowering your quad 2 in and not gaining any excelleration. Also if you go to a race track any racer who knows anything about quads will have the 9.5 tamers. Accually i baught my tamers off a 250a and 2 stroke pro-am rider Joe Dreslinski. 1 more thing make sure u get your tires groved.

I am not sure about all the stock 400EX tires but mine measured much smaller than 20". There is a good chance the 18" turf tamers will be about the same size as your stockers. I currently run 15/38 on my 440EX with 18" MX Holeshots and it plenty fast.
