I have a 2001 recon that is having a problem. after a while of riding it will suddenly just stall out. when i re-start it, it will idle fine but once i hit the throttle even the slightest it will die again. It doesn't do it very often but when it does if i let it sit it will normally go away. No it's not out of gas it had a full tank. Could this be a result of overheating, is vapor lock the problem if so does higher oct. gas fix it? Could there be a trouble with the choke? has this happened to anyone else?

thanks

That happens to me every now and then. It happens when the bike lands kinda hard. I hate it when it happens but I have no idea what it is. It goes away by itself too. I have no idea

I had this same problem when I first got mine. To make a long story short, I removed the float bowl from the carb, and found a number of small black chunks of something unknown. I took carb cleaner and thoroughly cleaned both bowl and carb internals. I also checked the tank filter, but found nothing The bike has never shown these symptoms since.
I can't prove that this was the problem, as there also could have been water in the bowl. You could try opening up the float bowl drain screw, and see if that helps. Turn off the fuel valve first. It is the slotted screw, slightly recessed in the left lower part of the carb bowl. Leave it open till the flow stops. If this doen't help, try my other suggestion.

well i see kkkiller300ex who knows nothing about recons has replied , i had a recon and had the same problem with my recon and i figured it was the carb so i put some dry gas in it and filled the carb with cleaner and then blew it out with an air compressor and theen it was fine , and also when it did it before i pulled out the choke lever all the way and started it and drove wide open for a minute and it fixed it . good luck
