I just installed new springs on my 250R, and i don't know how far in i'm supposed to tighten them...my manual doesn't say how far, just to tighten.....when i have them all the way in(flush with the pressure plate), the clutch is extremely hard to pull....but when i loosen them and make the clutch pull easier....i can't get the right crankcase cover on all the way, because the springs bump up against it. So what's my problem? Are they supposed to be that tight...or should i just tighten the bolt down and let the crankcase cover push them down? Any Help would be appreciated.

yes, you have to tighten them all the way down, you should fell the bolts tighten up (flush as you called it), the bolts are threaded so your right side cover will not push them in. did you get stock springs or cr500 springs. if the stock springs pull to hard, your cable is getting bad, or get a new easier pulling clutch lever, like pep.

You have to tighten them all the way against the center hub. Are they stock springs? Or aftermarkte(barnett, ebc, etc?) Aftermarket springs have a higher tension to prevent slippage with higher HP engines. If the hold down bolts for springs loosen they will make all sorts of racket and machine thier way thru your clutch cover. Hey, the Hinson clutch cover mod for cheap!!! Really though, tighten them up against the center hub, you'll feel the tension come up. Don't over tighten they are only 6mm bolts.

Dirty gummy old cables can cause extremely hard pull...You should be able to slide the cable with it removed very easily by hand.

The problem is not in the cable. I haven't even bolted my engine in my frame yet. I was just pulling on the peice the clutch cable connects to with my hand, and it was tough. This is piece that comes straight out of the engine. So is that part supposed to be difficult to pull with your hand?

Also, my springs are EBC 250R springs i think.

YES! The lever and perch give you much more leverage against the springs. The springs clamp up around an average of 40-60 pounds, so unless you're a freak with super strong fingers...it's going to be nearly impossible to move....You're fine, that's normal...

Yeah, the first clutch i put in mine worried the $h|t outta me about that. I would reccomend using stock plates and fibres, and CR500 springs next time. DONT USE BARNETT IN AN R. I have had nothing but bad experiences. Ive burnt 2 in a year racing MX. They do good in 4 strokes, just not 2s. (more clutch abuse in two strokes i guess)

Thanks....now i've encountered a different problem. When i try to kick it over, the piston skirt bottoms on the crankshaft, and wont move any further...as if the piston skirt is too long. I didn't buy this piston, the guy gave it to me with the bike. My local machinst siad the piston and cylinder bore matched perfectly, so i didn't think anything of it. COuld i have the wrong piston? Cause on the piston box(wiseco), it say's it for a 86 atc 250R. Mines a 86 trx 250R. What could be the deal here?
