I'd like to clear this up, my dad thinks that 2 stroke quads are very unreliable and have to be tore down after a short time like 2 stroke racing dirt bikes. Is this true? I was goin to get an R, quadracer, or tecate but my dad wouldn't let me becuase of this reason. I got a 300ex instead, i love it but i think my dad thought the 2 strokes had 2 much power for me because i am only 13. Any input would help.

Only a short time if your dad considers every year a short time. My dad doesn't like the 2 stroke idea either. Unless Polaris.

Usually a 4 stroke engine that frequently gets the oil changed and valves adjusted will last 10 years easy without a single teardown. I even knew this guy that had a Suzuki 185 3 wheeler that had 11,000 miles on the speedo and wuz still on the ORIGINAL plug and had never had the valves adjusted or anything taken apart. A 2 stroke's lower end seals and piston and rings usually don't last long if rode real hard. If you've been riding for a while and can use the clutch good then you should be able to handle those with a little responsibility, but I can see the reason why dad wouldn't want you to have those. The 250r is still a current race bike and is just plain fast.

You will be amazed at how smart your dad will get about the time you turn 21.

I think your dad is very smart...My first quad was a Warrior i was 15 at the time and tought it was "The thing" at the time, after a couple of years i bought myself a nice Lt250r it was supposed to be a TRX250r but things screwed up at the dealership so i went the Suzuki way.It was a damn nice quad loved it alot and still miss it but i am glad today that i got the Warrior first to get some experience i am not sure i would be alive today if the LT250r would have been my first ride.Take your time, you are still very young, you know sometimes when you rush things it turns out real bad, when we first start riding (10 years ago) we were 4 of us now we are just 3, my best friend killed himself on his 250R (it was his first bike) trying to pass me on a public road a car was also trying to pass another car at the same time they met head on he died instantly...Take it easy there is always time to upgrade to whatever quad you want.
