What is with these people who are constantly watching their gas guage? Even the quads that consume the most fuel can be driven for less than $10 a day. If range is a concern carry a couple of gallons of fuel! I just find it very annoying to be with these whiners!

Sorry to be one of those "whiners", yet when you consider some of us guys who ride 100+ miles in a day, fuel mileage DOES matter. And, considering how much gear we pack, rack space is a very valuable item-no room for "a few extra cans". Having an approximation of expected fuel mileage tells us how far we can go on a tank, and then allows us to make appropriate changes in our pack for that extra fuel we will need. Sorry, but some of us "whiners" like to be exact with our gear and fuel-carrying too much is stupid, not enough and you're stuck easily the better part of a day's walk out in the middle of nowhere, leaving your rig stranded. Those that come prepared often become saviors when compared to those who don't in an emergency, and are then truly seen as "whiners".

Sorry to be so "annoying", hope that gives you a better idea as to why we worry about fuel consumption,

Mike

Spending money on gas isn't the concern with an atv, its the limitations it gives you on how far you can go. Like cowboy said, some folks have to travel farther than their tank will allow them, thus they have to pack fuel with them. Hell, thats just a hassle. Fuel economy is nice to have when you can get over 100 miles out of one tank of gas. I know I can't go much over 80 on my AC, and the Grizzly probably isn't any better. If I had the need to go 150 miles for some reason, I would be hauling a buttload of gas around with me.

If I ride a little agressively I get about 2 hours or 30 miles on my 250r, so yes and am looking at the gas and praying I make it back

There is a sand pit out in the middle of nowhere that I like to ride in. There are about 5 miles of trails to get there...with no way to get a truck back there.
I would say that having a ruff estimate of how far I can go is kind of important to me.
I would not want to push my banshee 5 miles across stumps and ruts.

Call us weirdos But I would say that a responsible rider would want to know about how far they can go. Sometimes it makes sense to plan ahead and pack plenty of fuel. I know it comes in handy for me when I go camping. (Yes I take my banshee camping often) With no racks...as mentioned above...A well planned pack is often key to making it through a weekend without pushing. Luckily we always bring along a friend with a 4x4 ATV and a small trailer for the extra fuel if needed.
Oh well...My two cents worth.
