I was just saying you don't need the compersion release.

<<Hasn't kindergarten started up yet?>>

GOOD ONE!!

That really makes me a moron because I know that you don't need compression realease. I think your the one who is a moron your always going on and on about how great your 300ex is over the 400ex and how much you don't like the 400ex but you put 400ex parts on it! I didn't come on this site to impress you so if you have a problem with me good for you , I personaly couldn't care less.

I wish my X had electric start! Have you ever tried kicking over a 300cc 11:1 engine?!?! If I have it on the compression stroke I can stand on the kick starter with all my weight on it and it wont move! I weigh 165lbs. I practicly have to jump on it to kick it over and yes I have a compression release and I use it and believe me kicking over a higher compression engine vs a stock engine is a whole different ball game. Hell kicking over my friends KX500 is a dream compared to kicking over my X.

No actually the biggest bike I've ever kicked over is a bored quadsport with a high cpmpression piston. It wasn't easy with the sidekick either. And I think i kicked over a TRX300 once. Well I gotta go down to the dealership and hopefully my clutch will be in so I will see what it takes.

its the way you said it, you sound like you are trying to make yourself feel all big and bad, compression releases are for sallys?

And lets go see you kick over a 350X with a 12:1 piston. You have to jump on it!

Well guys I went to the dealership and got my clutch springs. My gasket hasn't came in yet. He said that honda did away with all the internal kickstart gears when the 300ex came out. So anyway I really need some help on this one. Since my selonoid is out I pulled one off a junk lawn mower. it hooked right up no problem. Theres just nothing there when I hit the start button tho? I checked the fuses and they were good. What am I doing wrong? I hooked a meter up to it and the starter is getting juice, buts its not even turning over.

Well ny no means am I big and bad. I was just trying to make the point that it's not as big of a deal as people make it out to be.

Also I have never kicked over a 350X with 12 to 1 but I did kick over a 350X motor ina 250R that was bored stroked to a 426 with 11 to 1 and that took all I could give just to turn it over , nevermind start it !

I had the same problem. We recently bought a 96 300ex only to get it home and find the starter was very unreliable. Only if the battery had a full charge it would kick over. I did notice that the starter was always very hot.

I took the starter off and took it apart. Very easy to work on. I used a scotchbrite pad to clean corrosion off of the copper armature pads. Put the thing back together and it hasn't missed a beat since.

You're right about a new starter being big $. The brush assembly, which is the part that wears is not too expensive. You may want to think about replacing it while you have the starter on the bench.

Good luck.

(my .02 - forget the kick starter, if your starter dies, you cana always bump start the 300ex with a little help)
also - we love the 300ex - great first machine - now looking for the right 400ex, maybe a new one.

Why not try and get the starter rebuilt by a local electrician. They have all the coils and parts and I know it'd be cheaper then buying a new one.

Well guys it turns out there was nothing wrong with my starter juts my selonoid. So I finallly got the one from the lawnmower to work by grounding it. Everything works fine now. I still havn't got my new gasket yet so I havn't pulled the sidecase off yet for the clutch.
