Recon runnin 65 mph??? I dunno bout this
#1
Is there anyway for a '97 Recon to run 65 mph. I'm about to buy one, and the guy swears it has run 65 next to a car. For some reason I think he is exagerating a little bit because I'm new to quads and only 18. Any Help Appreciated.

baseball2b,
Sure, A Recon in good condition could do 65mph... if it was in the back of a pickup. Seriously, it might do 50 mph, given enough time & space. I think you had better treat any thing this guy says with a great deal of suspicion if he told you that tale with a straight face.
Also, since you are new to the atv scene, I would like to point out that top speed isn't a primary concern in choosing a quad unless you're going to do nothing but drag racing with it. Things like reliability, ergonomics, that is, how it fits you and the ease of operating, suspension, general handling characteristics, etc. are much more important than how fast it goes in a straight line.
If you are serious about buying this machine from this individual, I would strongly urge you to take someone with you who is knowledgable about quads, preferably Hondas, and insist on a test ride off road, not in his driveway. If he has nothing to hide he should be agreeable to that. If not I'd keep my money in my pocket & find another quad for sale

baseball2b,
some good advice there, and I would also suggest you ask this seller if he would object to your taking the machine to the Honda dealer for the service mgr's opinion on it's condition. Given this guy's propensity for stretching the truth it might be interesting to see his reaction. iT might cost you a few dollars for this opinion but better than a few hundred later. If he has nothing to hide he shouldn't object. You also could check the condition of things like the air filter, oil dip stick level, un-natural tire wear, etc. Any of these items are indications of the owner's attention to maintenance, or lack of.

Hey guys, you all saved me a couple thousand bucks. The guy was full of crap. I took a mechanic buddy of mine along with me, like someone suggested, and he basically told the man that the motor was a piece of crap. Leaks all over the place, worthless brakes and bent up skid plates. It looked good at first until I actually rode it. Guess I'll look a while longer.
