250r probs
#1
ok basicly my prob is boggin. but it doesn't bog till i hit 5th gear. and i don't have enough area to get into 6th whenever it does start to gain rpm's. i've tried just about everything airfilter, jets, piolet jets, needle setting, airscrew setting everything. i'm starting to think that the carb is shot(stock carb) the motor barely idles too. i've had 3 motors so far with this R and i've had the exact same probs with each one. what do you all think. any help would be great

It just kind of depends on what you mean by bogging. I think what your situation is that you arent running it high enough on RPM's when shifting. Thats the one kind of downfall with a 2-stroke, you have to keep it in the power. Dont short shift your R, let it pull a gear high and then shift at high RPMS to keep it from bogging like it is.

hate to say it, but you have to beat the crap outta 2 stroke engines for them to last and to have power. riding at a casual pace doesnt clean the carbon out of the engine. sounds like a guy i know, never used a power ban in his life.

I agree with LBZ, a 2-stroke just wants to be revved! Thats the difference, but I do understand going from a 4-stroke to a 2 its hard to get adjusted right off the bat to using the powerband. Case in point, the first time I rode my R, I was used to a 300ex, on my ex I would just power through anything, leave it a gear high and I was still just fine. Then I went off a big jump on the R, and didnt have it in the powerband, when I tried to just blip the throttle like on my ex, I had no power. I ended up landing bumper first and going over and over again with the quad on top of me. Boy was I glad I had a helmet on!
Anyway, just rev the hell outta that engine before shifting to 6th and you wont notice the bog. What you need to do is try and shift from 3rd-4th running about as many RPMs as you are running shifting from 5th6th and you will feel the same bog. If you dont, then it may be something else.

i always rev it high. i'll let it rev completely out in 4th and let it stay maxed out for a few secs. and then i shift as soon as i shift it bogs. i've jetted it almost to the point of blowing a piston and richined it too. i've tried everything. i always keep my rpms up. and then i sat it up on the stand and shifted throught and gear and went up the 6th no prob. but then when i wet to rid it would still bog as soon as i hit 5th. anymore ideas?

nah a dealer is out of the question. i don't trust their work at all. its not a big prob cause i don't have the area to run 5th gear of higher for any amount of time but i just would like to have it fixed.
