boxofrokx,

Seeing is believing… Here is a link to a friends picture on his CB750A Hondamatic. Sorry pictures of mine are not on the Web http://cowlove.com/750A/ Honda also made Hondamatics in a CB450A as well as a 2000 - 1978 Goldwings.

As for comment about dropping it into my Rubi No it won’t work. 1) The Rubicon is computer controlled and 2) The CB750A is a 4 cylinder. But the concept and operation are identical. Also to comment on you statement, “If the transmition is the same one as made in 1962, why can't you just put some of the parts from one of them in to fix it?” Because, we have come along way since 1962 and 85cc scooter. Designs have been refined, just as snowmobile clutches have. Everything is continually improving. I think it’s safe to say that this is a proven transmission.

To quote a Honda’s press release:

With over 100 patents pending, the continuously-variable Hondamatic transmission is unlike any transmission ever offered on an ATV - or any other motor vehicle, for that matter. Utilizing a hydromechanical design that Soichiro Honda first introduced on the Juno M85 scooter in 1962, the Hondamatic is compact, quiet, maintenance-free, extremely rugged, and impervious to external contaminants. Significantly, the Hondamatic features engine braking, an elusive feature in belt-drive systems that riders greatly appreciate when negotiating hill terrain.

Here’s the link if you wish to read the full press release.

Now I’ve been a member of this forms for a while now. I visit every day and I have yet to read a post from an actual Rubicon owner that there tranny has failed. And I’m not talking a slight glitch within the computer where it needed to be re-set. I’m talking mechanical failure. I certainly would like to know what you read on this forum and where I might find it.

My Rubicon has been bulletproof! It is what suits me best. The Praire 650 & Grizz 660 are great bikes, to each his own. The transmission in the Rubicon is an all new transmission based on a proven design. Conceptually it is not new, but mechanically it is. In talking to the largest Honda dealer in Georgia, he has not had, nor heard of even one transmission failure on the Rubicon.
