What are you looking for in a 4-wheeler?

I'm just looking for a four wheeler that will pull deer out of the woods and pull my ice shack around. I already have a 2001 400ex, but all I can do with that is pretty much trail ride.

Pulling a deer or ice shack would be a piece of cake that any of the foreman series could handle. The Rubicon would just do it easier and more comfortably.

Love it! I have especially grown to like the automatic. I thought I might miss shifting, but no way. Instant power in any circumstance with no need to downshift. Great climbing hills and of course there is no need to put your foot down in the mud or water to change gears when needed. I also agree that any Foreman will handle your jobs, but the Ruby is a bigger machine and you will pay a bit more for it. Also, if you like trail riding, in your part of the country conditions will obviously limit the 400ex where a 4X4 can go out year-round.

Adrenaline,

I'm in the market for an ATV as well and, though I believe the Rubicon is a great machine (I had a 86' FourTrax 350 4x4 and loved it), I'm leaning towards the 660 because of the IRS and the Sportsmans because of the accessories available from Polaris (plus it has IRS).

Have you given any thought as to how you are going to drag the ice shack out? Just drive on top of the snow or plow your way out?

I don't know what type of winter you had in Wisconsin, but in NH we got dumped on, big time. My friends couldn't even use their ATV's, so my theory was to get an ATV with a snowblower and snowblow my way to the lake's center, while dragging the fishing shack (plus I could clear my driveway).

I would use a snowmobile, but the shack is too heavy and would burn the belts out in a matter of minutes.

Any one have experience in doing this? Any thoughts?

Just a note if you are looking for a quad with IRS... don't forget to look at the '02 Arctic Cats. They have a new maintenance free, fully independant suspension setup for all of their mid and big bore machines. Also, the semi-independant swingaxle models (ACT) are nothing to ignore.

Ditto to what the others have said. Approaching 1700 miles in 12 months of ownership, and no mechanical problems. As much as some folks like to spread fear, that tranny has been quiet, uneventful, but productive!
