350 X vs. 400 EX

I just getting used to my new 350X(which i love) Iand i went riding today. I raced a 400EX just to see how it measured up against it. The 400 was stock and i have is a K&N filter. But i could never get a good start, it seemed like i would either pull a wheely, miss a gear, or accedently shift into neutral. So he would get about 4-5 bike lengths ahead of me untill i hit 3rd, 4th, and 5th then he would be about half a bike length ahead of me. Then when he hit 5th and i hit 6th the top speeds were exactly the same. So what do i need to do to beat him off the line because i know this bike can do it. Do i need to maby start out in second or sit more on the gas tank, and i know i need to ride it more to get the gears and clutch down. Any replies will be helpfull. start in 3rd......i do.......try it........guarantee to be quick....i am SERIOUS......like this i can be right there with the atc250r's (i the only 4 stroke in our club that races competiviely)......
lean forward.....start with the bike just below the rev limiter..........dump the clutch
ya will get a awesome ride........very fast......
ps. i run 18x11x8 turfies and 14-37 gearing.......

the bike is like aaaaaaaa...........BRAND new otherwise.....
frame painted....tank painted.......maier front gaurd.....orginal front tire........
motor is stock.......tranny feels tight!.......
its just a fresh bike....some say i should put it in the shed and look at it cause its so clean.......but........lifes to short for that
dunno what i am like beside a 400ex.......honestly never tried it.......this weekend i will at thundercross [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]
i can compete with 250r trikes comfortably.....as is.....but i loss my advantage in the straights......and gain it in the corners......put it this way, when me and 4 other 250rs line up for a race.....i am not last......the 350x is one great machine to race
top speed......who cares.............around 70mph or something......top speed won't always win the race
tires........i start in third.......with 18x11x8 but remeber the gearing i have now 14-37 gives me a ratio of 2.64 .........stock 13-40 sprockets give me a ratio of 3.08 ......going to 14-40 sprocket combination......gives 2.86
soo moral of the story....i have smaller tires......but don't think i have changed the over all gearing that much........moral of that story.......start in 3rd......or are you soft.....clutches are replacable.........bones heal......as i know
compare to a 400ex......i am told there is nothing in it
