250r VS 400ex
#1
Hi I am looking to buy a new quad. The 250r is a very appealing quad and some guy wants to sell me one for $1,990.00 but I am going to do a lot of trail riding but I will do just about everything else withit and I want to know if I should get the 250r or the 400ex. My friend has a 400ex and he loves it he let me ride it and I just loved the handling but I am wandering If I should get the 250r so I can save my money to buy one of the new ex's when they come out.
THanks

personally i want a 250r. but the bike you pick should depend on how lazy you are. i don't mean that as a bad thing either just read: if you don't care about mixing gas and oil and getting the ratios right, kick starting, slighlty less reliable (because its a 2 stroke), and a little more maintinence but you wanna go faster and (in my opinion) look cooler get the r. if you want a supoer reliable quad that you don't have to kick start and stuff get the 400. if all yrou gonna do is trail ride then i'd reccommend the 400.

I would recomend the R. I have one and I mostly ride tight trails and I can smoke anything in the trails so far (ive only had it for 6 days now) I love the 2 stroke power and the handling and suspension kiks A$$!! It is really easy to kik over and mixing the gas is a no brainer I mix 1 12oz bottle of premix with 5 gallons of gas and it comes out perfect everytime.

the 250r is a nice trail bike but its such a bitch trying to kick over a bike with a wet lever. and the 250r is gonna use quite a bit more gas. the 400 (I THINK) has better suspension too. i would rate the 400 as the better trail bike than the 250r. thats not saying the 250r isn't a great trail bike though...look at all the gncc guys that use r's.

The EX has better suspension than the R? NOT! The EX has an edge in wheel travel, but the geometry of the R is far better.
The R is also much lighter.
Less dependable because it's a 2 stroke? Also not true, depending on who/how set-up.

I dont know about the uses alot more gas part, yesterday kkkiller300ex , me and his dad went out riding all day and kkkiller had to put his on reserve long before I did on my R.
some plus's with the R is no battery to go bad , no starter to go bad , no vlaves to adjust not rocker arms to be hardend , less costly to fix when it breaks (usually) and it's easier to get power out of the R then the 400ex and it's cheaper too. my 2 cents

Actually, some say the 400 has better geometry, and is much less fatiging to ride. Read the articals on the guy that put the 310r and 426 engine in a 400ex engine. He said the 400ex frame had much better handling than his old r frame.

I say the r, becuase then with the money you save from buying it, you can put in after market parts, whick then when that NEW ex comes out you can sell that 250R and make a TOTAL profit on it, which you can have that money to buy the NEW ex!!

yes the r will use more gas. and i thought the R and 400 had the exact same frame geometry its just the r has square tubing and the 400 has round... and you have to remember here this guy is wanting just a trail bike. i'm not bashing r's because their my favorite quad in the world but seriousley you people need to stop being so biased. i know it kinda looks like i am cuz hey i own a 400ex. but i want a 250r and even if i had one i woulda said the 400 would be the better bike for this guy. its true tho you can get a kinda nice r and save a lot of money though.
