I'm looking for opinions on complete exhaust systems for a 400EX. I have an E-Series slip on right now and I'm looking for a little more power. Anybody gone from a slip on to a complete system on an EX?

no question, go with the yoshimura full race system,, it's on the expensive side, but you'll never want another system after you ride with that one.

I replaced an e-series slip-on with a Pro-Meg. It made quite a noticable difference in my opinion. The stock head pipe is very good for torque but it just doesn't seem to flow very well at high rpm. This thing screams unlike any other 400EX I've ever heard. It's real strong on the top end and about the same on the bottom. I wouldn't get the complete pipe though if you're going to use the stock camshaft, the slip-on works great with the stock cam. My two cents.

I'll put in 2 1/2 cents. Most complete system don't flow any better than stock with a slip on muffler. There is a better rate of flow, but not significant enough to tell without watching the numbers on a dyno. There are a few companies like LRD and Curtis Sparks that offer a big bore system. The headpipes on these systems are dramatically larger than stock. I have the standard bore LRD system right now. It is restricting the power curve of my bike. I have unbelievable low end torque, and it races up the RPMs, but then levels out. The big bore headpipe will give me more pulling power throughout the power curve.
I wouldn't spend the money on a complete system unless you get the big bore set up. IF you are still determined that you want a standard full system. I will sell you mine. I am looking into getting the new one soon.

I second the vote for Curtis Sparks!! High quality, looks good, sounds good, works awesome!! I have the big bore pipe on my 440EX and I can now outrun my two friends Raptors in a drag race on the dunes!! Before with a Big Gun I had decent torque but still wouldn't stay with the Raptor in the mid and top.

Sounds like you've got the setup that I crave. I've been looking for a combo that will keep up with my Raptor. What 440 kit are you running? What camshaft? Thank's.

A friend that I ride with has a full race system Yoshi... I love that thing! I got a chance to ride it this weekend at the track.. Even though I'm not too good on twist throttles, that thing still had enough power to pick me and it up in 3rd, and turn corners like a pro. Engine builders recommend getting a new header pipe WHEN you are planning on modifying your engine. If you are going to leave it stock bore, and lower compression, you SHOULDN'T feel a difference in the headers. The only time I have heard of problems with the stockers are when you up your compression, and CCs. Rick Ritter's 3" SuperTrapp is also a good pipe. However, I'm not too sure on the Powroll header for the 400EX. I know on a 300EX the Ritter pipe delivers TONS more torque, and pulls your sockets all the way to top end.

In an answer to your initail question "Anybody gone from a slip on to a complete system on an EX?", the header pipe would be useless to you as of right now. When/if you get a big bore or install a higher compression piston/cam, then you would benefit from a more free flowing exhaust.

I would have to agree with TitanRacing2 though, after riding the Yoshimura, I fell in love with it.
