Way too many variables here. For a beginner, it's easier on a 250r. Not too many people really know how to properly setup a 4 stroke for a race. Jetting, Cam, Carb, Right size Big-Bore kit, proper sprocket selection, suspension settings. In my opinion, a properly set 440ex can easily compete with a 250r on any track.

Dill,
You're right, Jones did AWESOME on his R over the 4-stroke guys, but thats an exception I really think to whats going to become the rule. Most of the other guys are on a 4-stroke, at least most of the time. I didnt say that the R was totally outclassed by the 426's and such, but I think within a couple years you wont see near as many 250r's being competitive as 4-strokes. Just my thoughts, but I think the AMA is basically trying to push the 2-strokes out, and they are doing a pretty damn good job.

I must say I totaly disagree 4 strokes are easeier to ride then 2 strokes. PS on a 250R you have to get the right pipe, reeds , sprockets, suspension settings, and carb. You make it sound like 4 stokes require so much more work but you need to get most of those things right NO MATTER if your driving 4 stroke or 2 stroke.

Basically what it comes down to is waiting until everybody who needs a race quad is forced to buy a 4 stroke, the two strokes will die off, and we are left with all dialed in 4 strokes. Which is fine. Once the ring dings are off the scene, it won't matter. Since no manufacturer really cares about racing (except Cannondale~ MUCH CREDIT DUE...) We will be dictated by the OEM's what we race. 4 strokes against 4 strokes are fine. Most ATV's are a great deal of fun to ride, it is just a matter of taste. Personally, I like the taste of castor on the back of my tounge. That will probably never change, and I will live my life in the glory days of ATVing. BUT, I won't buy a new Honda, unless it weighs the same as a 250R, has the same power as a 250R, and handles like a 250R. At this point, I don't care if it is a 2 or 4 stroke as long as I don't have a stroke waiting for a LIGHTWEIGHT, STRONG, DECENT HP, WELL HANDLING QUAD!!!
aaaaarrrrrgghhhhh!!!!!!
