Recently at a local XC race I accindently went off course by mistake. As I was getting back on the trail I had to climb a very small bank. I climbed the bank by feathering my clutch to gain traction. I noticed trouble by doing this which never happened to me. Once I got back on trail I shifted into 3rd gear but it felt as if it were in 1st. I came around the bend to discover my quad had "puked". I tried starting it back up and it started but as I released the clutch the quad wouldn't go at all. It acting as if were stuck in neutral. When I got back to my trailer I loaded it up and put it in 1st but it never locked up. What's wrong with it???????

xcracer250X, It kinda sounds like your clutch may be dead. Did it make any funny noises, or shift OK?

If it just reved like crazy without movement, like being in neutral, the clutch plates probably need to be replaced, one way to check is to smell the engine oil, if it smells like burnt cluth, then thats what you probably did.

If thats it, replace all the plates(metals and friction) not just the friction plates, it will last much longer. If you get aftermarket clutch plates, I'd recommend Vesera, I've heard their better than Barnett. You will have to purchase the stock metal plates also.

Hope this helps.
