How are the stock 400EX tires?

Lonestar Banshee, I don't know if you have a 400Ex or not, but a stock 400 does not have enough horsepower to hit the rev limiter past fourth gear. Unless your going downhill. Also I have had both of my 400's modded for almost 3 years now and have had no problems. They are still HONDA!!!
Deathbringer, The fastest I have gone on my 440EX is 69mph. I have never tried to go top speed on a long straight road. The 69mph was on a gravel road near a gravel quarry we ride at. I also have never estimated the difference in gears comparing the two quads. I agree with Lonestar Banshee that the speeds in the first gears are the same because both quads will hit the rev limiter in those gears. But even after the 440 kit, race cam, 39mmFCR carb, LRD pipe, oversized valves, etc... (all done by LRD), I still have never hit my rev limiter in fifth gear. Nor would I want to.

I have modded mine as well, and it does go faster down the long straight aways. Stock, it will not hit the 10K rev limit in the top gears, but with the more power from the mods, it will spinn up higher in those same gears equating to more top speed! I have done nothing to my rev limiter. I would like to put a tach on my bike to see exactly how close to the limiter I am riding but I still don't hit it when in 5th but pull alot closer to it now. And my gps has clocked it faster as well.

Cool, thanks.
Lonestar just so you know the rev limiter in a stock honda is 9,300 and the whitebro's box moves it to 10,300. Honda (yes someone called)says there is no damage as long as you do not exceed 12,000. So I guess you really wont hurt it going to 10,300.. I do agree though with the fact that the higher you rev all the time you will age it quicker, but in the event of it lasting 6 years instead of 7...who cares..
Thanks everyone

on the straights mine has gotten to 74 on the gps (3 mile) Down hill I have hit 81 after taking a healthy crap and on res (all over the limiter then) Local security forces (base police) clocked me at 70, crossing a gravel road going down the trans alsakan pipeline.
I have it jetted at 165/40 clip down 1, and at 380 ft asl. Big gun race series, K&N outerware, no lid. 240 lbs riding weight. Also to note I have been loosing speed and traction since I reached the wear bars on the stock tires. Thinking about getting a WB rev kit to get a little more top end but don't want to sacrifice bottome end or startability either. Its around 15 deg here now, so will be covering it up for the winter.
To stop I added sintered pads and added renthal bars since my wreck last year. Both myself and the bike were ready about the same time 6 months later.

I think everyone who is involved in the top speed/acceleration discussion is correct. It is true that top speed will not increase without changing the gearing. The speed is a simple product of the RPM's of the motor times the gear ratio. 9,000 rpm in 5th gear is the same speed regardless of the hp made (as long as the gearing is the same). But the other side of the argument is that without mods, the engine won't pull that high into the powerband in that gear. That is where the extra hp is required and comes in modified motors. So it is true that a gearing change is required to change the POTENTIAL top speed, but the potential top speed never comes unless you modify your motor.
