As a former CR 500 Owner, Its simple.. Hang on! I have had Many Bikes in My life, and to this Date, it has been one of my favorites. Im not sure what everyone was saying here about only riding it in wide open spaces. I rode mine in the woods a fair amount, it made a great woods bike! It would lug down low almost like a 4-stroke and then xplode when you needed it too WITHOUT jabbing the clutch! GREAT Bike,, Gees all this Reminiscing has me thinking about another one to Compliment the EXC in the Garage! Mine NEVER fouled a plug, was jetted perfectly and ran like a champ.. Now on models, the 80's models are more Brutal. they had a lighter flywheel and more direct hit.. Up into the 90's, they have been toned down a little, not less powerful, just different.. They changed the ignition curve and have a heavier flywheel, the powers more tractable, but not the instant rush the older ones had.. On the plus side the newer ones have better suspension!

Exactly, Honda has been trying to tame the CR500 Engine ever since its lanch in 87' Every year after 88' it was a tad more tame.. Mine also worked in the woods, I just left it in 3rd and pulled in the clutch to slow down then let it out to rocket! If you want the most brutal bike ever built it would be the 83' CR430R and CR450R as they had a light switch powerband of nothing at all to everything in litterly a second's notice!

Bingo1, the reason more people aren't putting the CR500 motor into the 250R frame is vibration. That motor will rattle your brains out. When you think about it, how would a 500CC piston feel on the "combustion stroke"? Talk about a THUMPER. Anyways, LSR or Laeger have made a specail frame for the CR motor swap. I believe it has rubber on the motor mounts, to help that problem.

MR350X... If you get the CR, does that mean you will be leaving us?
