Question: Starting cold 250r
#1
I have a quick question. How do you guys start your cold R? I pull the choke and gas it as I kick but more times than not I end up flooding the engine with gas and end up having to pull the plug and dry it out or replace it. What does the manual say about this? Are you supposed to gas it a little? Instinctively I open it wide and kick, is this the problem?

Well, I haven't had my R for long but whenever I start it cold I just pull up the choke and kick it I don't give it any throttle until it's started and then I just let it idle for about 2 minutes, then turn off the choke and let it sit for about 3 minutes then I just drive around really slow in 1st gear and it starts this way every time. I use to foul plugs too but to prevent that I just turned down the idle a little and now I don't foul em at all (when starting).

Trx250Rob, Back when I rode CR80's, I learned that Honda's are hard to flood. This holds true with the 250R. The coldest it has been outside for me to crank mine is in the 40's though. I pull the choke, and when you feel the "easy part of the stroke", punch the gas. Don't hold it wide open or you will flood/foul it very easily. I try not to open the throttle all the way, just give it a good 1/4 to 1/2 punch. See if it helps.
