I ride trails, some mud, some MX, hills, power slides, want to spin the tires(in dirt) really well. Gotto dust out my buddy on his raptor. I heard that the 416kit revs faster is this true? How much faster does it rev? what is the power differance between the two?
And where would the best plce to get the kits be?
And last does Marcum's ATV sell 10:1 ?

I dont understand this 440/416 thing. The 440 is just plain fast and quick. I have gotten all kinds of good holeshots this year, and the ones I havent gotten were my fault. I think there are two reasons why the 416s were popular the first being it can be done with the stock sleeve, and gives great gains. The second is that before last year a 416 was the biggest 4 stroke you could run and stay out of the open classes at the GNCs.
I was told by Sparks when they built my motor that their 440s were notably faster than their 416s. If you want a good race cam get a Sparks race cam, but make sure you get stiffer springs and hard faced rockers.

Red...If you want tire spin you better get rid of the Ohtsu's unless you are in sand. As you may know, Ohtsu are radial tires and the sidewall will flex allowing maximum traction, thus not allowing the best power slides. Razor's or Holeshot's 4 ply will be a better tire for the type of riding you mentioned. Ohtsu's will punchure easily, but are good tires; when mine wear out I'm getting another set.
If your buddy has a 49 state Raptor and is stock (no pipe), equal weight, similar riding skills, a 440 kit alone is not going to get the job done. It's a combination of the 440 kit , porting, cam, carb, gearing and pipe selections that will put you in the lead. Investigate your options well before you spend for their are many companies eager to take your dam money.
A piped Raptor will be putting out around 38-42 hp. It will take you $1200-2000 plus a 1999-2002 TRX400EX service manual ($48) , for the EX to make that kind of hp. Phone (618) 644-3211, Rick can get you on your way.

the 416-440 kit debate is all hype. When people are comparing,,there saying a 416 kit with 'this cam and this and this and this' is much faster and revs faster than a 440 kit. Well you put the same mods into a 440 kit and it will (with everything equal) be a tad faster.
BTW,,,i have a 440 kit, 11:1 compression, XR cam, Uni filter, and stayed right next to a stock raptor till 5th gear where his extra geared allowed him to reach a higher top speed.
