You can rejet quite a bit higher than the kit K&N sells. i had a 300ex that had a K&N, DG RCM, 34mm Carb, hotter plug, air box mods, and later on a port and polish w/ valve job. before the port job, i was leaving 300's with the exact same mods in the dust, and it was all because i had my jetting figured out. i removed my airbox lid and put on a breathable cover, went from a d8 plug to a d7 plug, and spent a whole day rejeting my carb. it's all about trial and error. try one jet, and if it needs a little more, go up one, then if you get too much jet, go down one. you can get a butt-load of power out of any bike if you know how to get the most out of your carb. the best thing you can do, if you're looking for cheap, is buy the hotter plug, it's only a couple bucks, and you can bump your jetting up several steps. the 300ex's come out with a 128 jet or something like that, and i was able to run a 152 or 154, not sure what it was. hope I helped you out.

with the k&n jet kit and filter i rejetted to a 155 main. Honda did this for me. The pro circuit t-4 gave good gains. The 16 tooth counter sprocket has done well. it leaves the line with the front tires in the air. not as high as before and careful throttle work makes it easy to launch hard. I not sure what it feels like when it won't pull that gear, but mine still pulls the wheels on gear changes 1,2, and third gear. If i look into my carb o should see if the slide is not going and setting flush with the top of the carb opening. if not do i adjust till it does?
Thanks again for all the responce. I am new to all of this 400ex stuff.

Remove the choke plate in your carb. You don't need it. when you turn your choke on- you are only squirting fuel into the carb. If you press your thumb throttle three times before you start the 400ex, you are doing the EXACT same thing.
By removing the choke plate in the carb- you are reducing air flow friction- thus air flows smoother through your carb... hence MORE POWER.
There was a thread a few months back where I learned this- and it works well! It's NOTICABLE POWER!
I'm running a 13t counter sprocket simply because my 22" wheels are so damn hard to turn. I'm thinking about going back to the stock wheels so I can run a 16t.

So does anyone realise how important weigth is on a quad? If not you should because you can gin alot of torque by shaving off a few pounds. Dont over look this it is just like a car. Less weigth = more power. Cheap and easy way just take off un needed parts.

yea- well what about us "fat bastards"... the weight we shave off our bike- we just gain by eating donuts! I've found the BEST way to go faster on the 400ex... is to STOP EATING. Loose 25 pounds- and you can fly further- and jump higher.
