Yes, they are slow. I have a 98 450ES and I got tired of eating dirt and riding in the back of the pack so I bought a 99 Explorer. Now I am in front throwing dirt on them. Anyone want to buy a Honda?

My friend Paul rides a new 99 450s.I drag raced him with my Tank 500cc 4x4 Sportsman, also a 99.We raced three differant times. Each time he shifted the 450s, I jumped a complete quad in front of him.The 450s first gear is really low,so he tried a race in second gear.I still jumped him by a quad every time he shifted.I will soon be owning the more powerful 2 stroke 400cc 4x4 Xplorer,I cant wait to see what happens than.===BILL

You should try your 300EX tied to a Traxter if you think you have a puller puppy ?
(be prepared to drop some sort of anchor, cuz yor in fer the ride of yo life)

Had a 450ES, its nice in alot of ways but not much compared with the Traxter for power/fuel burn.

Keep Smiling,
Dave

Boy....everyone wants to race and bury poor ol" Honda !! Even though this model is not intented for sport. Maybe the Polaris dudes should talk to Yamaha owners ...they are the guys way in front of the pack!!
Its not always about whos 1st in the begining...

If I wanted fast I wouldn't have bought a "4x4 utility". I like technical stuff such as hill climbing and rough bush trails, all of which do not allow me a high rate of speed. My 450 is also used a farm tractor for doing chores , pulling wagons, mowers, drags, etc. these are the things that a 450 was built for and is good at.
It works for ME!
P.S. Does BigFoot do 200MPH "NOT"

Bill 450es,you must just be kidding. What makes you think Yamaha would be way in front of the pack?Yamaha does not make a 4x4 quad that is quicker than the Xplorer or Scrambler. And the 600 Grizz is NO match for either of these two quads either.I do agree with you that slippin n slidin are more fun than allways leading the pack.Just curious why you feel that way?===BILL

I have a 2000 Yamaha Big Bear 400 4X4 and I just have tp say that I am indeed in front of the pack most of the time. Unless there's a 400EX or Banshee with us. My quad is fast (clocked at 64MPH, seriously,) a great hill climber/decender, and a great puller. I'm not bashing Honda's or Polaris' in any way, I love the 400EX! But anyways, my Big Bear is a great all around quad.

Bill...Just pullin your leg ! If I cant catch you maybe I can slow you down.
I was just trying to even the playing field a tad. I do know if the Polaris is locked in low range and raced in sand, say 6inches or so that my 450 will stay much closer.I still lose but not by much.As for your 2 stroke the 450 will seem verry slow..but you now enter the speed world of Banshees and even Blasters.. my condoleneces(sp) if you go drag racing them.Bring the 2 stroke back to mud and Honda 450 will be waitin" to play!!
Still Slippin n Slidding
Looking for BIGGer Hills!!
